VP88

The VP88 is a single-point stereo condenser microphone that places two cartridges in one body. The forward-facing Mid cartridge uses a cardioid pattern for on-axis sound, while the Side cartridge is bi-directional and picks up sound from the left and right. Together they form a time-coherent mid-side stereo image of the source.

An internal M-S matrix offers three settings for different degrees of stereo separation. The matrix can be bypassed to get direct M-S outputs, which suits setups with an external matrix or stereo decoding in post-production. The signal is mono compatible, which is useful for broadcast. A switchable low-frequency rolloff (12 dB/octave below 80 Hz) reduces ambient noise and stand vibration, and an internal shock mount and built-in pop screen reduce handling noise and plosives.

The microphone runs on phantom power or a 6V camera battery, with an LED to show power status. A Y-cable splits the output, and the kit includes a foam windscreen, swivel adapter and carrying bag.
