The LX-2 is a passive splitter for balanced line-level audio. It feeds one source to two separate destinations, for example a recording interface and a PA system, while a Jensen transformer isolates the two outputs from each other. This isolation removes hum and buzz caused by ground loops.
A trim control attenuates signals that are too hot. It allows a mic preamp to be driven hard for coloration while the level is reduced before it reaches an interface or compressor input, avoiding clipping. The trim is enabled by a recessed switch intended for set-and-forget use. With the switch off, the control is bypassed and the level cannot be changed by accident.
Typical uses include splitting a preamp output to two compressors, sending a line output both to stage PA and to a recorder, and feeding an outboard effects unit alongside a clean signal to the interface so the two can be blended in a DAW for parallel processing.
