The C 538 plays standard CDs, CD-R and CD-RW discs, as well as discs holding MP3 and WMA files. It uses a reinforced transport and a stable chassis intended to limit vibration and tracking errors, together with precision digital clocking and a tuned analogue output stage. A multi-layer circuit board with short signal paths is used to keep noise down.
Control is through front-panel buttons and an included remote that offers Random, Program and Repeat modes. A dimmable display shows track, time and playback information, including for MP3/WMA discs.
For connection, the player has an analogue output with a 2.2 V nominal level, plus coaxial and optical digital outputs for feeding an external DAC or AV receiver. It is a compact unit with a low standby draw of under 0.5 W.
