PLASMA Pedal
A guitar distortion pedal that clips the signal by passing it through a xenon-filled gas discharge tube, producing an audible electrical arc. It has Voltage, Blend and a two-band EQ, and suits guitarists after extreme fuzz and gated tones.

The Plasma Pedal replaces the usual diode, transistor or valve clipping stage with a different method. The input signal is stepped up to as much as 3500 volts and drives an electrical arc between two electrodes in a xenon-filled gas discharge tube. The arc is visible as a blue light on the front panel. An analog rectifier circuit then converts the discharges back to audio level.
The Voltage knob sets the signal threshold needed to make a connection in the tube, which moves the sound between open, sustaining distortion and chopped, sputtery gated tones. A Blend knob mixes the plasma distortion with the clean signal or with other effects and gain stages. An on-board EQ offers low and high boosts and cuts, and a toggle switch applies it either to the plasma signal only or to both the plasma and clean signals.
The pedal has a 1/4" unbalanced input and output plus a DC input for a standard centre-negative 9V supply. No power supply is included, and the unit needs at least 250 mA.
