Freeze

The Freeze samples incoming audio in real time and holds the captured note or chord for as long as the footswitch is pressed. Releasing the switch makes the pedal ready to capture a new sample. A three-position mode switch selects fast decay, slow decay or latch, the last of which gives infinite sustain of the captured sample. The design aims for smooth tonal transitions between captures.

Controls are kept minimal: an effect level knob sets the volume of the sustained sound, and a status LED lights while the effect is sounding or fading out. The circuit is digital, mono, and uses buffered bypass. It is built to handle the input levels typical of a pedalboard signal chain.

Connection is through a single input jack, which takes an instrument or another pedal, and an amp jack, which goes to an amplifier or the next pedal in the chain. Power comes from the included 9.6VDC 200mA adapter, and the pedal draws 140mA.
