Kastle 2 Wave Bard
Kastle 2 Wave Bard is a compact, patchable stereo sample player with a built-in pattern generator, LFO, filter and delay or chorus/flanger effects. It suits experimental musicians and modular users who want portable, semi-autonomous rhythm and melody generation, with USB MIDI in and out.

Wave Bard plays samples organized in banks, with a SAMPLE knob selecting one of eight samples per bank by default. A LENGTH knob sets decay in one direction and reverses the sample with an added attack in the other. Pitch can be quantized to selectable scales through the NOTE input or modulated continuously through the FREE input. A resonant lowpass/highpass filter and a stereo delay or chorus/flanger are built in.
A tempo-synced pattern generator provides GATE and CV outputs and can be patch-programmed. The LFO has triangle and pulse outputs and can be synced, reset or left free. The tempo generator offers tap tempo, a divider and an external clock input. A web-based app loads user samples, rhythms and scales, and sets the number of sequencer steps. Banks and sample counts can be extended beyond the factory layout.
The unit runs from 3 AA batteries or USB-C. USB-C also carries firmware updates, sample uploads and USB MIDI. From firmware 1.1 it sends and receives USB MIDI (clock, notes, CCs, pitch bend). Sync in/out jacks and a stereo audio input allow it to work with other portable gear or process external signals. Firmware and schematics are open source.
