The UAC-8 is a 1U rackmount interface that connects over USB 3.0 and gives a computer up to 18 inputs and 20 outputs. Eight front-panel XLR/TRS combo inputs take microphones, line-level sources and instruments, with Hi-Z switching on inputs 1 and 2, per-channel gain and clip LEDs, and switchable phantom power in two banks of four.
On the output side there are two balanced master outputs, eight balanced line outputs, and two headphone jacks with separate volume controls. Digital connections include ADAT optical, S/PDIF, Word Clock and MIDI in/out. Conversion uses AKM converters with 4x upsampling, and the unit can run standalone as an 8-channel mic preamp and converter without a computer.
A free Mac and Windows mixer application, UAC-8 MixEfx, offers routing, panning, phase reversal, reverb and echo, with three mix memories. It also works with iPad through Apple's camera adapter, and a Cubase LE download license is included.
