Sub (Gen 3) takes over the lowest frequencies in a Sonos system so that paired speakers can concentrate on mid-range and high frequencies. Frequency response reaches as low as 25 Hz. Two force-cancelling drivers are used to cancel vibration, buzz and rattle, and two Class-D digital amplifiers and dual acoustic ports are tuned to the cabinet design.
The cabinet has a gloss finish and can stand upright or lie on its side. It comes in black or white. Settings are automatically equalised to balance the sub with the paired Sonos speaker or component, and bass, treble and loudness can be adjusted in the Sonos app. Trueplay tuning measures the room acoustics and requires a supported iOS device.
Sub connects over WiFi (802.11a/b/g/n, 2.4 or 5 GHz) and is added to the system through the Sonos app, with a Join button used during setup. A 10/100 Ethernet port is available for a wired connection to the router. It needs at least one amplified, non-portable Sonos product such as Arc or Era 300, and two Subs can be used together in a home cinema setup.
