This phono stage is dedicated to moving magnet cartridges. Its input uses a fully discrete, cascaded, complementary amplifier configuration, chosen to get the best out of an MM cartridge. The RIAA equalization is split into two stages to limit interaction between them, with polyester capacitors in the signal path and polypropylene capacitors in the equalization circuits.
The MK5 sits in a redesigned aluminium case that matches the Fono MC and the Neo amplifier, so it is styled to sit alongside the maker's current electronics. Operation is kept simple, with no adjustments listed on the product page.
Electrically it provides 41.4 dB of gain at 1 kHz, an input loading of 47 kΩ in parallel with 100 pF, and a frequency response from 15 Hz to 100 kHz. It runs from a 24 V AC supply and carries the maker's lifetime limited warranty against manufacturing defects.
