The Headload connects between an amplifier and its speaker cabinet and lowers the level reaching the speaker so the amp can be driven hard at manageable volume. A 6-position rotary switch sets the amount of power reduction, from unaltered signal down to complete silence, and the unit can attenuate to 1% of total power. It handles up to 130 watts RMS (180 watts peak) and is offered in 4, 8 or 16 ohm versions.
Two built-in JDX amp direct boxes provide a pre-EQ and a post-EQ feed, so a recording can be made without a microphone on the cabinet. When a mic is used as well, an integrated Phazer circuit time-aligns the direct and miked signals. With the speaker output fully attenuated the unit acts as a dummy load for silent recording, and a headphone amplifier allows quiet practice.
Typical uses include reducing stage sound pressure so the engineer can mix more easily, recording silently via the JDX Reactor, and blending the direct feed with a microphone. The maker lists the product as discontinued and no longer shipping, with a user guide and smart sheet available for existing owners.
