The Signature 12.2 is a belt-drive turntable built around a flywheel drive system and a heavy aluminium platter. The motor is a precision DC-driven AC generator, and speed is changed electronically between 33 and 45 RPM from a control panel. Quoted speed variance is ±0.09% at 33 RPM and ±0.08% at 45 RPM.
The 12-inch S-shaped aluminium tonearm has a redesigned bearing that moves from a uni-pivot to a 3-point pivot. Aligning the three pivot points is meant to lower friction and improve stability compared with cardanic or earlier uni-pivot bearings. The counterweight and anti-skating mechanism have also been revised. Effective mass is 21.7 g and overhang is 13.2 mm.
The platter weighs 10.55 kg, is damped with TPE and carries a vinyl layer on top. It runs on an inverted ceramic ball-and-plate bearing that is magnetically decoupled. The deck is powered by an external 15 V DC universal power supply and uses 0.5 W in standby.
