The C54 belongs to the Hegel C5 series of configurable multi-channel power amplifiers. The series comes in 3-, 4- and 5-channel versions, so one or more units can drive a 5.1 or Atmos home theatre, bi-amped or actively crossed-over speakers, a mastering studio or a restaurant. The C54 is the four-channel model, rated at 150 W per channel into 8 ohms.
It uses Hegel's SoundEngine2 error-cancelling topology, which lets the class A/B output stage run at low bias and stay cooler, so it can be installed in a 19-inch rack. The damping factor is above 2000 and distortion is under 0.01% at 100 W into 8 ohms. Each channel has its own switchable gain (23 or 29 dB) and phase (0/180 degrees) setting, which helps when integrating it into a larger system.
Every channel accepts a balanced XLR or an unbalanced RCA input. A 12 V trigger input and output allow remote switching and daisy chaining, so the amplifier can sit in another room. The chassis is 3U with integrated front rackmount ears and adjustable, detachable rear mount ears. Feet are supplied for use outside a rack.
